Newborn Knitwear Guide: The 5% Cashmere–95% Cotton Wrap Cardigan for Baby Boys (CKC21B0008)
1. What Is This Newborn Wrap Cardigan?
The CKC21B0008 is a long-sleeved newborn cardigan in a fine light-blue and white horizontal stripe, knitted in a 5% cashmere / 95% cotton blend on a 12-gauge computer knitting machine. It is listed under our Newborn Knitwear category and produced as a wholesale, OEM and private-label style from our Shanghai-area factory.
Unlike a pullover sweater, this style uses a wrap crossover front that fastens with four buttons along the side placket. The crossover means the garment opens fully, so you never have to pull a narrow neckline over a baby's head — a detail that matters for newborns, whose neck and head are still delicate. The style is currently listed for boys, but the stripe palette and wrap cut work equally well in a unisex newborn range.

2. Why a 5% Cashmere–95% Cotton Blend?
Pure cashmere is extraordinarily soft and warm for its weight, but it is also expensive, delicate to wash, and prone to pilling and stretching on a wriggly newborn. A small cashmere percentage blended with cotton is a deliberate engineering compromise: you keep the signature softness and warmth of cashmere while the cotton base makes the knit breathable, more durable and far more forgiving to care for.
Industry fabric notes for cotton–cashmere baby knits describe the blend as "warmth without weight, so baby stays cozy but never overheated", with cotton letting air move to help regulate temperature and adding the stretch and give that matters when dressing a moving baby. Cashmere fibre is exceptionally fine, which is what makes it feel soft against new skin, while the cotton backbone holds the shape through repeated washes. For a wholesale buyer, this means a piece that retails as a "cashmere" touchpoint but is not a high-maintenance, dry-clean-only product.
3. Why the Wrap Crossover, Not a Pullover?
The crossover (kimono-style) front is one of the most requested newborn silhouettes for a reason. Retail reviews and parent guides consistently call out wrap-style baby tops for easy dressing, gentle snap or button closures and the fact that they lay flat on a sleeping baby rather than pulling over the head. For a wholesale buyer, this translates directly into fewer returns from customers who find pullover necklines difficult to use.
On this style, the four buttons run down the wearer's left side rather than straight down the center, which keeps the front smooth and stripe-aligned. Because the garment opens fully at the side, a parent can lay the baby on top of the open sweater, bring the panels across and fasten the buttons — without ever lifting the baby's arms or pulling fabric over the face. The buttons are tightly sewn; on the sample they sit flush to the placket with no loose ends, which matters under small-parts safety testing (see Section 6).
4. Construction Details Buyers Notice
4.1 Ribbed neckline wrap
The crossover edge and neckline are finished in a close rib that hugs without binding. Ribbed trim retains its shape through washes and prevents the neck from stretching out after repeated opening and closing.
4.2 Ribbed cuffs and hem
The cuffs and hem use the same fine rib. Long sleeves with a ribbed cuff stay in place over a bodysuit and block drafts at the wrist; a ribbed hem keeps the layer from riding up. This is a classic layering piece for spring and autumn, or as an indoor extra layer in winter.
4.3 Back view
The back is a single, clean stripe panel with no seams or labels at the neckline interior, reducing bulk where a baby lies against a car seat or stroller.
5. Safety Standards for Baby Knitwear You Should Ask Your Factory For
When a buyer sources newborn knitwear for the US or EU market, two regulatory frameworks dominate. As a BSCI- and OEKO-TEX-certified factory, Camiz produces to these standards and can provide the relevant documentation on request.
CPSIA (United States). Children's products intended for children under 12 must comply with lead limits (total lead in substrate and surface-coating lead), the 16 CFR Part 1610 flammability standard for clothing textiles, and small-parts requirements. A General Certificate of Conformity (GCC/CPC) is required for each shipment. Buttons and other attachments must be firmly attached and not present a choking or aspiration hazard.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Product Class I. Product Class I is the strictest class and applies to babies and children up to 36 months, including garments that come into direct contact with infant skin. The standard tests for over 1,000 harmful substances, including regulated chemicals, and is the benchmark most serious baby boutiques expect to see in a supplier audit.
For your own range, ask for: (1) the current OEKO-TEX Class I test report covering the yarn and finished garment, (2) a CPC or equivalent compliance statement for US shipments, and (3) confirmation that buttons and trims have been pull-tested. We can share these as part of the quotation process.
6. Care Instructions to Put on the Retail Hangtag
A cotton–cashmere blend is more forgiving than 100% cashmere, but it still needs gentle care to retain softness and shape. The care guidance below is consistent across specialist baby-knit brands (MIKA & MILO, Quince, Sweet Peanut and others):
- Wash cold, at 30°C or below, on a gentle or wool cycle. Use a mesh laundry bag and turn the garment inside out.
- Use a pH-neutral, non-bio liquid detergent — a wool or cashmere wash works well. Skip fabric softener.
- Do not wring. Press water out gently between towels.
- Lay flat to dry at room temperature, reshaping by hand. Do not tumble dry and do not hang on a radiator, which causes stretching and felting.
- Cool iron only if needed, over a cloth.
Including these steps on the retail hangtag reduces pilling and shrinkage complaints, which is the single biggest driver of negative reviews for knit babywear.
7. Wholesale, OEM and Private Label
Camiz is a wholesale-only factory — we do not sell retail. This style is available for boutiques, kids brands and private-label programs on the following terms:
- MOQ: 100 pieces per style per color. We work with small- and mid-sized brands, not just large volume buyers.
- Customization: Color, stripe width, button color, label and packaging can be customized. The sample shown uses a side button placket; we can also develop a center-front or shoulder-button version.
- Production lead time: approximately 2 weeks for bulk after sample approval, with fast sampling.
- Shipping: by sea or air, or express via DHL, FEDEX, EMS, TNT and UPS. DDP and LDP terms available for global delivery.
- Payment: L/C, T/T or Paypal.
- Certifications: BSCI and OEKO-TEX certified; test reports available on request.
